Paivascapes #1 – Paiva River Sound Festival will take place between March 4th – 8th, 2011 in nine venues and riverside locations, namely in Vila Nova de Paiva and Arouca.

The Municipal Auditorium of Vila Nova de Paiva is where a significant part of the Paivascapes # 1 programme will take place in the first two days of the event, March 4th and 5th, 2011: an exhibition with seven multimedia art installations, which will open on 4 March at 18.00, the first of a series of lectures and film screenings to be held on March 5th from 16:30 and two concerts nights on both March 4th and 5th. River Beach of Areinho
On March 8th at 15.00 a sound installation by Keiko Uenishi, intitled 'Sound Dams" will be presented at the river beach of Areinho. Her project resulted from a series of recordings made in October 2010 with students from schools in the municipality of Arouca. In the same river beach, on March 8th at 16.30, the Paivascapes # 1 festival will end with a performance of the traditional group "Sons da Beira Alta". [...]

In the river beach of Espiunca a sound installation by German composer and sound artist Marc Behrens (entitled "Recurrent") will be presented on March 7th at 14.30. Marc Behrens developed his project in interaction with communities between Nodar and Arouca, with special reference to the village of Espiunca. [...]

On the river beach of Fráguas a concert of the "Revenant Paiva" project will take place. A group of artists led by Patrick McGinley will, on March 6th at 10:00, sonically activate the river water, the pedestrian bridge and found objects and architectural structures. [...]

At the river beach of Nodar, a village that hosts the annual program of international artist residencies on sound and media art and organized by Binaural / Nodar, will take place a sound picnic coordinated by Jez riley French.
